The purpose of this research is to examine the influence of cultural beliefs about type 2 diabetes and psychological factors on treatment adherence among culturally diverse patients with type 2 diabetes. This research is guided by the Integrative Model for the Study of Culture and Behavior and employs a recently validated cultural scale that was developed based on the mixed-methods cultural research approach to instrument development. HbA1c and adherence to the diabetes diet and exercise plan are examined within the context of socio-structural factors, cultural beliefs, diabetes self-efficacy, and diabetes distress.
