MEND is an intensive psychosocial intervention for chronic illness. Patients are referred to MEND when their primary or specialty care physician believes intra, intrapsychic, or familial process stressors are impeding the patient's ability to adhere to their treatment protocol or their potential health related quality of life. MEND is a family system program based on an ecological and bio-behavioral stress response conceptual framework.
Results of MEND studies show that the program improves health related quality of life of child and family, cognitive functioning, parent-child relationships, school performance, and biological stress (cortisol/catecholamine).
