Our Social Work Programs
Make a lasting impact through Loma Linda University's Social Work programs—where rigorous training meets a commitment to whole person care.
- Recognized for excellence among advanced clinical social work programs at faith-based universities in California.
- Described by a local government representative as "the platinum MSW program in the region."
- Award-winning student leadership: LLU's Phi Alpha Honor Society (Iota Pi Chapter) is the only chapter in the U.S. to receive all four annual national awards in a single year—recognized for outstanding philanthropy and community service.
- Global service opportunities: MSW students serve communities in countries such as Cuba, Thailand, Angola, Bolivia, and Nepal through the University's Students for International Mission Service.
Why Choose LLU Social Work?
- Flexible formats to fit your life. The MSW is available online, on-campus, or in a hybrid format. The DSW is fully online, accessible whether you're local to the Inland Empire or studying from across the country.
- CSWE-accredited. Our MSW program meets the highest national standards for social work education, preparing graduates for licensure as an LCSW in California and beyond.
- A launchpad for leadership. Graduates go on to serve in hospitals, community mental health centers, government agencies, schools, and nonprofits—and DSW graduates are equipped for advanced roles in clinical leadership, administration, research, and policy.
About Our Department
The Department of Social Work and Social Ecology at Loma Linda University is widely recognized for its commitment to academic excellence, clinical skill development, and evidence-based, resiliency-informed practice. Rooted in a Christian commitment to service, our programs integrate a biopsychosocial-spiritual perspective with hands-on learning across Loma Linda University Health and a wide network of community practicum sites, connecting classroom learning with real-world impact.
With small student-to-faculty ratios—10:1 in the MSW and 8:1 in the DSW—you'll receive individualized guidance throughout your studies. Through Loma Linda University Health, students gain access to a comprehensive behavioral health and medical ecosystem, preparing them for careers across mental health, child welfare, criminal justice, medical social work, and policy.
