The Clinical Generalist specialization prepares students to work in a range of clinical settings, including hospitals, medical centers, university counseling centers, community mental health clinics, school districts, and other settings in which there are diverse patients presenting with a broad range of problems.

Clinical and research experiences in neuroscience and neuropsychology will also be emphasized.

The training includes a clear focus on delivering care within medical settings such as primary care clinics, hospital settings and other medical team-based care activities that can reduce health disparities by focusing on population health across an entire panel of patients. As such, coursework includes training in healthcare systems, integrated behavioral health in primary care with brief interventions and screening, groups for focused care of lifestyle change, substance use, and other chronic illnesses, as well as the development of care pathways for specific diagnoses. Core issues relating to the social determinants of health, access to care, care quality and quality improvement, culturally competent care will be addressed in coursework and in practicum training sites within medical settings.
