For many graduate students, flexibility isn't a luxury, it's a necessity. Advanced learners are working full time, raising families, and managing commitments that don't pause for a degree program. The Department of Counseling and Family Sciences designed its online MFT MS with exactly those students in mind.

The 100% online Marital and Family Therapy MS mirrors the department's long-standing on-campus program—approved by the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) for licensure in California and nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education. The program blends asynchronous and synchronous coursework, with all synchronous sessions scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30–7:30 pm PST to accommodate working professionals.

The online MFT MS is part of a broader commitment to accessible, rigorous graduate education within the department. CFS also offers the nation's only COAMFTE-approved Doctor of Marital and Family Therapy (DMFT) in a fully online format, as well as an online Drug and Alcohol Counseling certificate that qualifies master's-level graduates for three national certificates in substance use disorder treatment. Students enrolled in the online MFT MS can complete the Drug and Alcohol Counseling certificate concurrently at no additional cost.
