On September 30, fifteen School of Behavioral Health students, their guests, and four faculty members gathered to celebrate the students who have been selected as this year's Training in Rural and Underserved Care for Kids and Youth (TRUCKY) awardees. TRUCKY is a grant funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) that provides practicum scholarships to our students. The grant supports students who are working with children, adolescents, and young adults in behavioral health fields. The students selected—in addition to serving this specified population, under 25-year-olds—are in their last year of training and come from disadvantaged backgrounds, including being veterans, minorities, first-time graduate students in their families, or speaking another language as a first language. The total amount of scholarship awards given to SBH students for the 2024-25 academic year is $270,000.
The scholars selected for 2024-25 come from the following departments:
- Psychology: Aantuu Mengistu, Eunique Tucker-Cuevas, and Sophia Josemoan
- Social Work and Social Ecology (MSW students): Valerie Meza, Elyse Cyphers, Steve Thompson, Yang (Sam) Yu, K.C. Hohensee, and Alexandra Borjon
- Counseling and Family Sciences (MS in MFT students): Karmina Rucobo, Gazal Zein, Ael Faith Retonel, Magali Garcia, Kaitlyn Barbee, and Cherice Alce
We want to extend our proud congratulations to all recipients!
