Trauma Team members and trainees in Iceland
By School of Behavioral Health - July 9, 2025

Members of the Loma Linda University International Behavioral Health Trauma Team traveled to Reykjavík, Iceland, from May 2–5, 2025 to provide training in the Community Resiliency Model. Dr. Bev Buckles, Dean and team leader, was joined by Dr. Winetta Oloo, Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs; Dr. David Vermeersch, Chair of the Department of Psychology; and Dr. Talolo Lepale, MSW Program Director. The training was offered in partnership with the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Iceland to support community capacity-building efforts. It was well received and attended by twenty-two church leaders and members.

"It is our hope and prayer that the wonderful people of Iceland whom we had the privilege of getting to know and train will be able to use CRM skills to promote strength and resiliency in themselves, family, friends, and in the broader community," said Dr. Buckles.

The Loma Linda University International Behavioral Health Trauma Team operates under the leadership of the School of Behavioral Health. Since its inception in 1995, the team has provided clinical interventions, conducted post-crisis intervention research, supported community development, and delivered training in trauma-informed behavioral health care and community resiliency. Team members include clinical faculty, behavioral health clinicians from Loma Linda University Health, alumni, and, when possible, advanced-degree clinical students from programs within the School of Behavioral Health.
