Mental Health Pipeline Program
By School of Behavioral Health - February 20, 2019

If you're a recent high school graduate wondering whether a career in behavioral health is right for you, LLU's Introduction to Behavioral Health (IBH) program was designed with you in mind.

Each summer, the School of Behavioral Health opens its doors to a small cohort of students for a hands-on look at careers in counseling, psychology, social work, and related fields. Through faculty mentorship, career presentations, and integrated learning activities, participants gain the knowledge and real-world context to make informed decisions about their professional futures. A key goal of IBH is to cultivate the next generation of behavioral health professionals—students from all backgrounds who feel called to a career in service are especially encouraged to apply.

Program Structure

Accepted participants enroll in PSYC 204 Introduction to Behavioral Health as non-degree students in the School of Behavioral Health. Tuition for the 2-unit course is free for all accepted participants.

The program runs for four days each summer and covers a broad range of behavioral health topics, including:

  • Interventions for depression and anxiety, suicide prevention, and substance use
  • Working with children, sleep disorders, and trauma response
  • Integrating spirituality, resiliency, stress management, and self-care
  • Behavioral health integration with primary care and other health systems
  • Career path presentations and mentoring with faculty and professionals

How to Apply

Applications open each spring. Enrollment is limited to the first 20 qualifying applicants. Applicants must be recent high school graduates or equivalent. The application includes a brief personal statement and one recommendation letter from a principal or school counselor, submitted on official school letterhead.
